TO ALL GRADE 8 STUDENTS 2006-2007...

GREETINGS!

Here are your Quarter Break Assignments for the nine days that you are going to miss being with me in class...

LITERATURE:

1) As soon as we get back from the break, Monday, 30 October 2006, to be exact, I am going to give you a Mastery Test focusing on the first part of our story Flowers for Algernon; know well what took place from Progress Reports 1-12 from the text!

2) Those who won (from 8A & 8B) the debate session in class, need not worry about it since you are exempted from taking that test; those who presented their topics (from 8C) and got a grade of no lower than a 90 are also exempted from that test!

3) In your NB, do VOCABULARY: How To Own A Word on page 76 of your text!

GRAMMAR & WRITING:

1) In 7-10 sentences, respond to the following questions I will be posting here on BLOGSPOT. You have until Tuesday, 24 October 2006, to post your answer to this first question below; after which, I will close all response access to this and post the next blog.

"What is your concept or understanding of a TRUE friend? What qualities or characteristics should one possess in order to be referred to as a true friend? Do you consider yourself a true friend? Why or why not?
Explain your answer well."
2) Read and Understand pages 48-72 of your GW text; do not forget to take notes!
Well...that's all folks! Have a safe and enjoyable vacation and come back ready to once again "Rock-n-Roll" with your teachers and your studies. Kindly say, "HI!" to your parents for me and remind them of the PTC on Friday, 03 November 2006. Study well and be good...take care always and do not miss me too much..! CIAO!!!

"What is your concept or understanding of a TRUE friend? What qualities or characteristics should one possess in order to be refferred to as a true friends? Do you consider yourslef a true friend? Why or why not? Explain your answer well."

In my opinion, a true friend should be able to understand you, they should be able to help you when you need help. These are the two main important characteristics that I think a true friend should have. Others are that they should not be encouraging you to do things that we are not suppose to such as having drugs. A true friend should be able to understand you and sometimes help you out with problems. I do think that I am a true friend, because I can understand people, and i do my best to help them. Their problems are my problems.

In my opinion a true friend should have characteristics like understand each other, always standing on each other's side, always help out each other, and sharing secrets. The most important of being a true friend of someone is to be able to understand others. A true friend should not give you any peer pressure like taking drugs, drinking. A true friend should be a close and will never tell lies to you. A true friend should not tell others negative things about you. A true friend should not betray you. I consider me sometimes not a true friend, but most of the time yes. The times when I consider myself not as a true friend is when i make fun of someone. I know that I will gain nothing from it but that time I was having fun, but afterwards when i thought about that I felt really sorry to who I made fun out. Lastly, I think that a true friend is whom really cares about you.

I believe that a true friend is somewhat like a best friend: they are both a friend that truly wants to be your friend. If you are popular, you can have many friends, but there could be only one or two that are really your true friend. They are already your friends even before you are popular so they are not being friends with you just because of your fame. They are always willing to help you and they use constructive criticism to avoid hurting your feelings but still helping you at the same time. Judging by my definition of a true friend, I would say I make an A- friend. I use constructive criticism all the time. Though when I am busy and a friend ask me a favor, I will either tell them to wait, or I will just apologize and say no. Some of my beliefs are stronger than my friends, so if they want me to do something that’s against my own rule, I will refuse. For example, I believe I should always keep my promise so if someone, and I mean anyone, ask me to keep a secret, I will not tell my friends. In conclusion, true friends are not any kind of friends; they cannot be found easily and should be appreciated.

In my opinion, a true friend should be someone that understand you and always beside you. True friends should understand your feelings and thoughts, and support you when you need them. They should be someone that also stays beside you when you face a problem or need someone to talk with and was trustable. I think I am a good friend, but not to everyone because it is other’s opinion to think that you are a good friend or not. I will always stay beside my friends when they need me and always support them. I will do my best to be a good friend in my friends’ mind.
