TO ALL GRADE 8 STUDENTS...

GREETINGS!

Here are your Quarter Break Assignments for the nine days that you are going to miss being in my presence...

LITERATURE:

1) As soon as we get back from the break, Tuesday, 25 October 2005, to be exact, I am
going to give you a Mastery Test focusing on the first part of our story Flowers for
Algernon; know well what took place from Progress Reports 1-12!

2) Those who won (from 8B & 8C) the debate session we had in class last Thursday,
13 October 2005, need not worry about it since you are exempted from taking that test!

3) With a partner or on your own, do "Research/Science: #3 What is Intelligence?"
on page 75 of your text; make sure your presentation format is creative enough and not
just a boring reporting session!

4) In your NB, do VOCABULARY: How To Own A Word on page 76 of your text!

GRAMMAR & WRITING:

In 7-10 sentences, respond to the following question using this blog. Go down to comments
at the end of this and click on it to be able to post your response. You have until Tuesday, 18
October 2005, to post your answers; after which, I will close all response access and post the
next blog…!

"Why do we often find it easy to criticize and make fun of others around us without any thought of considering how it is affecting them emotionally or making them feel inside?"

Well...that's all folks! Have a very safe and enjoyable vacation and come back refreshed and ready to once again "Rock-n-Roll" with your teachers and your studies. Say "HI!" to your parents for me and remind them of the PTC on Friday, 04 November 2005. Study well and be good...take care always and do not miss me too much..! CIAO!!!

Mr. A

Comments:
Everyone seems to be criticizing each other so easily without realizing it, even me. I think it’s because we don’t think before we speak. However, some of us just can’t keep our mouths shut and just blurt out how we feel. Maybe once in their lifetime, they’ve been the ones who were being criticized too. Therefore, they expect the others to feel the torture they’ve felt before. I don’t know how some people just do it because they think it’s cool, that because some of their friends are doing it, they HAVE to be doing the same thing too. Also, some of us feel proud when we see the weakness in the others because it made them feel more special. Think again, when you criticize someone, you’re decreasing the so-called ‘special-ness’ in yourself. It should depend on how YOU feel towards the person, not how the OTHERS feel toward the person. These kind of stuff are natural, it happens in everyone even if you don’t admit it.
