Idiomatic Expressions" I would like you to copy (or print out and paste) in your notebooks and then figure out what it might mean based on the sentences that go with it. Do your best and guess if you really do not know/understand the hidden meaning. Try not to cheat and check books/internet regarding it...do it on your own!
- Smell A Rat - I smell a rat here, things are just not how it should be.
- Let The Cat Out Of The Bag - He let the cat out of the bag before the results were posted.
- Horse Around - Stop horsing around and let's get down to business.
- Cat Got Your Tongue? - Answer me now! What's the matter, cat got your tongue?
- Straight From The Horse's Mouth - They received an accurate information straight from the horse's mouth.
- Pull Someone's Leg - They're only pulling your leg, no one really died.
- Play It By Ear - We don't have a plan yet for tomorrow 'cause we decided to play it by ear when tomorrow comes.
- Shake A Leg - We're late as it is...shake a leg!
- Get Off Someone's Back - Get off his back, he's had a rough day already and he could do away with others bothering him.
- Drive Someone Up The Wall - Your constant banging on the drums is truly driving me up the wall.
- Spill The Beans - He told me it was supposed to be a surprise, why'd you spill the beans?
- Hit The Hay - I had a long day and I am so exhausted. It's time to hit the hay, goodnight!
- Kick the Bucket - The old man kicked the bucket yesterday due to his incurable sickness.
- In Stitches - We laughed like crazy during the show because of the funny guy. I tell you, we were in stitches from beginning to end.
- Hit The Ceiling - His parents hit the ceiling when they found out he drove the Porsche in the pool.
